Continental is pioneering the integration of Google Cloud functionalities directly into vehicle computers, a move that positions them as a leading automotive supplier. Their goal is to enhance the driver experience by creating an intuitive interface through the Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computer.
The collaboration enables drivers to engage with their vehicles through natural conversations. Whether they require assistance with tasks like optimizing tire pressure for a fully loaded car or seeking information about local attractions during vacations, the generative AI can gather the necessary details and provide answers. Both companies contribute their expertise in automotive, software, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing to this partnership.
Philipp von Hirschheydt, a member of Continental’s Executive Board and head of the Automotive group sector, stated at the IAA Mobility press conference, “By working with Google, we’re introducing artificial intelligence into the vehicle cockpit, creating a user-friendly experience for drivers. Leveraging our Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computer, we anticipate having a production-ready solution in just 18 months. This marks a significant step toward realizing our vision of software-defined vehicles.”
At this year’s IAA Mobility event, Continental is demonstrating the integration of the generative AI system into its Smart Cockpit High-Performance Computer (HPC) solution using a showcase vehicle (Hall B2/Booth A12). This innovation serves a wide market, with industry experts forecasting substantial sales in the high-performance vehicle computer sector over the next decade, reaching tens of billions of euros.
