Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 112 National Highway projects across the country, totaling approximately Rs 1 lakh crore in value, in Gurugram, Haryana today.
During the dedication of the Haryana segment of the prominent Dwarka Expressway, PM Modi remarked that it would revolutionize travel between Delhi and Haryana permanently, significantly impacting the lives of people in the region.
Highlighting the rapid progress in project implementation, the Prime Minister noted that within less than three months of 2024, projects worth over Rs 10 lakh crore have either been dedicated to the nation or had their foundation stones laid. He detailed that the projects encompass various development initiatives from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Notable projects include the extension of the Amritsar-Bhatinda-Jamnagar Corridor by 540 kilometers and the development of the Bengaluru Ring Road.
PM Modi used the example of the Dwarka Expressway to illustrate his government’s commitment to transforming challenges into opportunities for growth. He recounted how the area was once considered unsafe but has now become a thriving hub for major corporations, contributing to the rapid development of the National Capital Region.
The Prime Minister stressed the strategic significance of the Dwarka Expressway, particularly its connection to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. He emphasized how such infrastructure projects enhance connectivity, stimulate economic activities, and facilitate the integration of the NCR.
Furthermore, PM Modi applauded the efforts of the Haryana government, particularly Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in ensuring the timely completion of infrastructure projects. He praised their dedication to modernizing the state’s infrastructure, essential for the development of both Haryana and India.
The Prime Minister reiterated his government’s comprehensive vision for infrastructure development in the Delhi-NCR region, emphasizing the timely completion of major projects like the Dwarka Expressway and Peripheral Expressways. These initiatives, alongside the expansion of metro lines and the construction of international airports, aim to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce pollution in the region.
PM Modi reiterated the link between infrastructure development and poverty alleviation, underscoring how improved roads and digital connectivity in rural areas create new opportunities for villagers. He noted the emergence of new possibilities in rural India driven by digital infrastructure and access to essential services like healthcare and education.
PM Modi concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure development across India, highlighting its role in strengthening the economy and creating employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
He emphasized the transformation from delays to deliveries in project execution, reflecting the government’s focus on completing projects on time regardless of electoral cycles. The Prime Minister outlined plans for the creation of a 9,000 km high-speed corridor, with 4,000 km already constructed, and the expansion of metro services to 21 cities compared to 5 in 2014.
