Solaris Bus & Coach, a prominent manufacturer of urban and intercity buses in Europe, has unveiled its performance metrics for the calendar year 2023. The results underscore the organization’s adaptability to the ever-changing market dynamics and its resilience amidst shifting economic landscapes.
In 2023, Solaris achieved robust sales figures, delivering a total of 1,456 vehicles. The increasing prevalence of low- and zero-emission vehicles within Solaris’ sales portfolio reflects the company’s adeptness in aligning with market demands and expectations.
Across most EU nations, there has been a notable surge in the adoption of e-mobility vehicles in transportation fleets over recent years. Solaris proudly maintains its position as the leading European player in the zero-emission bus sector (inclusive of battery and fuel cell buses), sustaining its dominance from 2012 to 2023, with a cumulative market share of 14.5% by the end of 2023.
Based on vehicle registrations in 2023, Solaris secured the top spot in the zero-emission bus market (encompassing battery and fuel cell buses) with a commanding 15.2% market share.
The unprecedented sales of technologically advanced vehicles with alternative propulsion systems in 2023 translated into record-breaking revenues for Solaris. The company amassed revenues totaling 819 million euros in 2023, marking an impressive 18% increase compared to the preceding year.
Throughout 2023, Solaris distributed its products to clients spanning 17 countries. Notable recipients of Solaris vehicles included transportation operators in Poland, Spain, Italy, Norway, Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania, and Hungary. During this period, Solaris delivered a total of 690 battery electric buses, alongside 202 trolleybuses and 81 hydrogen buses.
Emerging as a frontrunner in the hydrogen bus segment, Solaris witnessed a notable uptick in the sales of hydrogen-powered buses in the preceding year. This surge underscores the increasing recognition of hydrogen technology as a viable solution among transport operators for their public transit systems.
As of the end of 2023, Solaris had deployed a cumulative total of 180 hydrogen buses into the market, solidifying its position as the premier European provider in this realm. Notably, Solaris vehicles accounted for 44.5% of all hydrogen buses registered in Europe in 2023.
The company anticipates this positive trend to persist, evidenced by the substantial volume of new orders received for the forthcoming years. As of the close of 2023, Solaris had secured orders for 535 hydrogen-powered vehicles, scheduled for delivery between 2024 and 2026. In response to escalating demand and the need to augment production capacity, Solaris recently inaugurated a cutting-edge production facility dedicated to hydrogen vehicle manufacturing, poised to serve as the nucleus of the company’s hydrogen and compressed natural gas (CNG) bus production operations.
