Vinfast Auto, which commenced construction on its electric vehicle plant in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, on February 25, 2024, has secured a design patent for one of its electric scooters in India.
Founded in 2017, VinFast is renowned for its premium electric cars, but it also offers a range of electric scooters in its domestic market. In CY2023, VinFast achieved sales of 72,468 e-scooters, including the Klara S, for which it has now registered a design trademark in India.
The Klara S model features a hub motor with 1.8kW nominal power and 3kW peak power, boasting a claimed top speed of 78kph, similar to the popular TVS iQube. Notably, the Klara utilizes an LFP battery instead of Li-Ion, with a capacity of 3.5kWh.
VinFast asserts a range of 194km with a 65kg rider traveling steadily at 30kph for the Klara S. Despite LFP batteries being heavier than Li-Ion, VinFast has managed to maintain a weight of 122kg for the Klara S. The scooter is equipped with a 14-inch front wheel, front and rear disc brakes, a 23-liter boot, and boasts a low 760mm seat height.
The VinFast Klara S electric scooter is priced at approximately Rs 118,000 in Vietnam. It remains to be seen what pricing strategy the company will adopt in India if it decides to enter the Indian electric two-wheeler market. The design patenting of the Klara S may indicate the company’s potential entry into India’s burgeoning electric two-wheeler segment.
