The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) took proactive measures to tackle the escalating issue of road accidents in India by organising the ‘Surakshit Safar’ (Safe Journey) Pavilion at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024. In collaboration with mobility solution provider Rosmerta, SIAM’s Road Safety initiative focused on the 4Es: Education, Enforcement, Engineering, and Emergency Care.
The pavilion witnessed the participation of OEMs such as Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI), Ashok Leyland, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Eicher Motors. It drew a diverse audience, including students, vehicle users, automotive and component manufacturers, road furniture manufacturers, emergency care providers, state institution employees, and enforcers. Key stakeholders like GARC, Natrax, ARAI, ASDC, JP Research, IHIF, and ICAT showcased their contributions to road safety.
The pavilion offered simulators, competitions, street plays, installations for road safety awareness, CPR training, and complimentary health check-ups. SIAM’s initiative shed light on various aspects of road safety through the 4Es, underlining the significance of responsible conduct on the road. A “Run for Road Safety” initiative aimed at instilling responsible road behavior among young individuals witnessed participation from over 1200 school children. The event commenced with Anurag Jain, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM, flagging off the initiative.
Jain stressed the role of children in promoting sound road safety practices, remarking, “Children need to be educated about the do’s and don’ts on the road. They can serve as effective ambassadors for spreading awareness among adults about good road safety practices.”
Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, visited the Surakshit Safar Pavilion, commending SIAM’s endeavors and aligning with the government’s initiative to enhance road safety awareness. He urged SIAM to establish more such pavilions in key cities across India.
