The automotive industry is witnessing tremendous technological advancements. Technologies like loT, Al, Augmented Reality, Human-Machine Interfaces, and Ultrasonic Sensors are leveraged to roll out innovative features like autonomous and connected vehicles, assisted parking, self-braking systems, and collection of data for predictive maintenance of the vehicle which seemed Utopian concepts until recently.
As the vehicles get smarter, auto repair shops need to evolve alongside. Outdated methods of repairing vehicles have to be replaced with innovative, efficient, and compelling technological methods instead. This presents a number of challenges but also provides many opportunities.
While most of the auto repair industry has already begun to reap the benefits that technology can offer, informal automobile mechanics lack knowledge of modern technology which affects their repair businesses. The government needs to pay attention to local automobile repair workers in order to help improve the situation through the various competent-based programmes.
The current issue of KARREP is focusing on the technologies disrupting the auto repair industry and the true potential they hold for automotive repair shops.
