Ola Electric is once again making headlines due to a similar incident involving one of their electric scooters catching fire, this time in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area of Pune. Numerous videos of the incident have been circulating on the social media platform X. However, Ola Electric has claimed that the fire was caused by an aftermarket part that was used in the scooter.
The recent incident occurred on October 28 in the parking area of DY Patil College, according to a report from Hindustan Times. A video of the incident, showing firefighters extinguishing the flames with water pipes, was also posted on X.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) fire brigade department reported that the Ola electric scooter suddenly caught fire, emitting heavy smoke.
To clarify the situation, Ola Electric has taken to X to explain that the fire in their electric scooter resulted from the use of aftermarket parts, leading to a short circuit. The company’s investigation has confirmed that the vehicle’s battery remains intact and functional.
Additionally, Ola Electric has encouraged its customers to use only genuine spare parts and accessories for all services and to contact them online or visit the nearest Ola Experience Centre for support.
In the meantime, Ola Electric has recently secured ₹3,200 crore in funding through an equity raise led by its existing investor, Temasek, and project debt from the State Bank of India (SBI). This capital will be used to establish a cell manufacturing facility and expand its electric two-wheeler business.
Ola Electric has also introduced new products in its electric scooter lineup, including the latest S1X, with prices starting from ₹89,999 ex-showroom for the 2kWh battery variant.
Notably, it was previously reported by Mint on September 6 that Ola Electric Mobility had entered into an agreement to raise $140 million from existing investors, including Temasek Holdings, at a valuation of $5.4 billion, which was lower than the $7-8 billion valuation that Ola had initially sought.
