MG Motor India’s Halol plant in Gujarat has received the second prize at the National Energy Conservation Award (NECA) 2023, recognizing outstanding energy efficiency in the automobile sector.
The award ceremony, held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on December 14, 2023, saw the presentation of the award by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and R.K. Conducted by the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the National Energy Conservation Award is a prestigious accolade in energy conservation. It recognizes MG Motor India’s dedication to sustainable manufacturing practices, with 50% of the energy required for manufacturing sourced from renewable resources. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 2 lakh metric tons over 15 years, equivalent to the positive environmental impact of planting over 13 lakh trees.
Already achieving a notable 36% reduction in CO2 emissions, decreasing from 0.59 metric tons in 2022 to 0.34 metric tons until November 2023, MG Motor India continues to project a declining trend. Projections indicate an estimated carbon footprint reduction of 11,889 metric tons by the end of the current year.
