Once a year, the Association of Event Organisers (AEO) recognises outstanding achievements in the event industry with the AEO Excellence Awards. The association represents the target market of Great Britain, which is of particular importance to Messe Frankfurt as a site operator in the “Locations” business segment. AEO members organise events inside and outside the UK. “In our role as host for other trade fair, congress and event companies, this award underlines our visibility and professionalism in dealing with the important topic of sustainability,” emphasises Uwe Behm, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt. “We are proud of this recognition, especially in view of the highly competitive environment in the event market. The competitors were top-class, and there were another eight well-known companies on the shortlist.”
The jury praised the company’s good work, excellent statistics and long-term projects in terms of sustainability. As one of the world’s leading organisers with its own exhibition grounds and host of around 250 events a year, Messe Frankfurt has anchored sustainability as a central pillar of its corporate strategy. With a comprehensive sustainability strategy and a long-term action plan, Messe Frankfurt has initiated a transformation process towards a low-emission event industry.
In recent years, the Group has made a number of voluntary commitments to sustainability. These include the United Nations Global Compact, the Diversity Charter and the Sustainability Code. In 2022, Messe Frankfurt completed an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) rating for the first time and achieved the bronze medal. The company supports the sustainability initiatives of the industry associations AUMA and UFI and has signed the “Net Zero Carbon Events Pledge”. By the end of 2023, Messe Frankfurt will be the first company in the German trade fair industry to be certified by the EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) environmental management system.
