Red Bull‘s Max Verstappen wins the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps. The Dutch driver overcame starting in 14th place on the grid to win easily, gaining the lead after a hectic first 11 circuits.
Third-place finisher Carlos Sainz completed the podium, while Charles Leclerc finished sixth and dropped further in the Drivers’ Championship due to a late penalty. When his Mercedes came to a stop on the racetrack, Lewis Hamilton was obliged to make an emergency pit stop, while Valtteri Bottas got stuck in the gravel while trying to avoid Nicholas Latifi‘s turning Williams.
After some early ground gained, safety car intervention assisted Verstappen in closing, and he was thereafter unstoppable. After his victory, Sergio Perez moved into second place, 93 points behind his teammate Charles Leclerc, who is now 98 points behind him.
