Keshub Mahindra, the revered chairman emeritus of Mahindra & Mahindra, has passed away at the age of 99. This news is especially saddening as it comes just days after he was once again included in Forbes’ list of India’s Richest Billionaires for 2023, with a net worth of US$1.2 bln, making him India’s oldest billionaire according to the latest Forbes’ world’s wealthiest list.
For 48 years, Mahindra served as the chairman of the Mahindra & Mahindra group, overseeing its expansion from an automobile manufacturer to a diversified conglomerate with interests in IT, real estate, financial services and hospitality. He was responsible for establishing key business partnerships with global giants such as the Willys Corporation, Mitsubishi, International Harvester, United Technologies, British Telecom and others.
Mahindra’s transformation of the company from a mere assembler of Willys Jeeps in India into a thriving, diversified entity was a remarkable.
