Built on Alexa technology, the upcoming BMW voice assistant will be. At Amazon’s annual Devices and Services launch event, Senior Vice President of Devices and Services Dave Limp and Senior Vice President of Connected Company and Development Technical Operations BMW Group Stephan Durach made the announcement.
According to Stephan Durach,
“This will take the digital experience to a whole new level. Alexa technology will make it possible for drivers and vehicles to communicate in a way that feels even more natural, allowing them to keep their attention on the road.”
“This partnership with BMW is a great example of what Alexa Custom Assistant was designed for, to make it faster and easier for companies to develop custom intelligent assistants for virtually any device, without the cost and complexity of building from the ground up,”
said Dave Limp, an Amazon representative. The importance of voice interaction has increased since the launch of the first BMW voice assistant (BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant) in 2018 for BMW iDrive.
The new BMW voice assistant will work in tandem with Alexa to give customers the advantages of a smart assistant who is an expert on the vehicle and services while Alexa offers the more recognisable features that many customers are already accustomed to using today, such as the ability to control music, remotely manage their smart home, add items to a shopping list, or check the day’s weather. Customers can continue to use either Alexa or the BMW voice assistant on their own, or they can utilise both assistants simultaneously. Within the following two years, the first BMWs equipped with the new voice assistant generation will be on sale.
