During his tenure as Nissan’s COO from December 2019, Gupta played a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the Nissan NEXT transformation plan, focusing on laying the groundwork for the company’s growth.
Hailing from Dehradun, India, Ashwani Gupta holds a degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Engineering College, India, and a diploma from the INSEAD Business School in France. He commenced his career in engineering and purchasing in the private sector in 1992, transitioning to management roles with Honda India and Japan in 1996.
Gupta joined Renault in 2006 as the general manager of purchasing at Renault India in Mumbai. His trajectory led him to the Renault Nissan Purchasing Organization in France in 2008, where he served as the global supplier account manager for braking systems.
In 2009, he became the Deputy General Manager of Global Purchasing at Renault Nissan B.V. His career at Nissan Motor Co in Japan began in 2011 when he assumed the role of Global Program Director for Datsun vehicles, overseeing product development and launches in India, Russia, Indonesia, and South Africa.
Gupta’s journey continued to ascend, and by April 1, 2017, he was appointed Alliance Senior Vice President of the Renault-Nissan LCV Business. Subsequently, from April 2018, he held the position of Alliance Senior Vice President of Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi LCV Business.
