Amazon and Hyundai Motor Company have announced an extensive strategic partnership at the 2023 Los Angeles Auto Show, aiming to introduce innovative experiences for customers. The collaboration entails Amazon initiating online sales of Hyundai vehicles in the U.S. in 2024. Hyundai has designated AWS as its preferred cloud provider for facilitating digital transformation, and the partnership includes integrating the Alexa Built-in experience into Hyundai’s upcoming vehicle models.
During the announcement at the LA Show, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Hyundai Motor Company’s President and CEO, Jaehoon Chang, emphasized the shared commitment to enhancing customer lives. Jassy expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to revolutionize online vehicle purchases and integrate Alexa seamlessly into Hyundai vehicles, offering entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments, and more.
Notably, in 2024, auto dealers will have the opportunity to sell vehicles through Amazon’s U.S. store, with Hyundai being the inaugural brand available for customers to purchase. This digital shopping experience allows customers to search for vehicles based on preferences and complete the purchase process online, choosing payment and financing options before picking up the car or having it delivered by their local dealership.
Hyundai’s cloud transformation involves selecting AWS as its primary cloud provider, with a focus on a multiyear agreement to migrate on-premises applications and prioritize areas like manufacturing, supply chain optimization, security, disaster recovery, and connected vehicle development. A Master Builder training and certification program has been implemented in collaboration with AWS to equip Hyundai engineers with essential cloud skills.
Starting in 2025, customers purchasing Hyundai’s next-generation vehicles will enjoy a hands-free Alexa experience within the car, extending the functionality they experience at home. This includes voice commands for music, podcasts, reminders, to-do lists, smart home controls, and navigation. The integration of Alexa in Hyundai vehicles aims to provide a seamless and connected experience for drivers, even in scenarios with intermittent or no internet connectivity.
