At the Japan Mobility Show, Toyota showcased several concepts, with the EPU Concept (Electric Pickup) standing out as a vehicle that appeared to be nearing production readiness. However, despite three years of development at the Calty Design Research Center in California, the project has not yet received the green light for production.
According to an anonymous Toyota Motor North America executive who spoke to Automotive News, the executive’s division within the company is actively advocating for the production of the truck. Nonetheless, the ultimate decision lies with the Toyota Motor Corporation, based in Japan. The primary challenge appears to be the need to lower production costs to ensure that the vehicle’s price doesn’t closely resemble that of the Toyota Tacoma.
