Toyota, the world’s leading automaker, is joining forces with Idemitsu Kosan to develop and manufacture all-solid-state batteries for electric vehicles (EVs). This partnership aims to enhance EV driving ranges and reduce costs, marking a strategic shift in Toyota’s commitment to electric mobility.
The companies have announced their goal to commercialize these next-generation batteries by 2027-28, followed by large-scale production. Solid-state batteries are known for their ability to store more energy than current liquid electrolyte batteries, addressing the key challenge of limited range in EVs.
Toyota President Koji Sato and Idemitsu President Shunichi Kito will host a press conference to provide further details about this exciting collaboration.
This move signifies a significant step forward in advancing EV technology, with the potential to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles and address consumer concerns regarding driving range.
