ROHM Semiconductor has unveiled the BD5310xG-CZ / BD5410xG-CZ series of Hall ICs created for automotive purposes that involve magnetic sensing.
As vehicle systems become increasingly computerized to meet the growing demands for enhanced electrification, functionality, safety, and comfort, the need for additional ECUs (Electronic Control Units) and sensors has risen to provide effective control. Hall ICs have emerged as a widely adopted sensor category due to their capacity to detect position and motor rotation without physical contact, reducing wear compared to mechanical switches. They are also compact and can be integrated with protective circuits.
ROHM has harnessed its experience in Hall IC technology, developed over many years in the mobile and consumer sectors, to design Hall ICs for automotive applications. By combining this expertise with specialized high withstand voltage processes, the BD5310xG-CZ / BD5410xG-CZ series stands out with an industry-leading withstand voltage of 42V, allowing direct connection to primary (12V battery) power sources. This enhances reliability under rapidly changing battery power conditions. Additionally, the series boasts a wide operating supply voltage range of 2.7V to 38V, accommodating various application needs. Its unique internal structure also reduces power consumption by approximately 20 percent compared to standard products, achieving an exceptional current consumption of 1.9mA. Both series adhere to the AEC-Q100 (Grade 1) automotive reliability standard and incorporate multiple protection circuits necessary for vehicle systems.
The BD5310xG-CZ series functions as a unipolar detection type, while the BD5410xG-CZ series offers latch-type detection. This diversity empowers designers to select the most suitable product based on specific requirements. The product lineup includes a total of eleven models with varying detection magnetic flux densities, ranging from 2.0mT to 28.0mT. Unipolar detection is apt for applications like door open/close and locks, while latch detection is well-suited for rotation detection in different motors used in power windows, sliding doors, and similar systems.
