Mercedes-Benz has officially inaugurated its inaugural German charging hub in Mannheim. The luxury carmaker aims to establish over 2,000 of its own charging stations globally, equipped with more than 10,000 fast-charging points, by the end of the decade.
In Mannheim, electric vehicle (EV) users now have access to six charging points, each boasting a 300 kW output. To maximize energy efficiency, each charger features a single port. Certain EV models can charge from 10% to 80% within less than 20 minutes.
For the development and operation of the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network in Europe, the company has partnered with energy and mobility expert E.ON. These charging hubs are open to vehicles of all sizes and brands, providing Mercedes-Benz customers with favorable conditions, including an attractive introductory rate.
Franz Reiner, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, emphasized the significance of the Mannheim hub, stating that it marks a crucial step toward emission-free driving and sets new standards in EV charging infrastructure. Mannheim is the fourth charging station globally, following Atlanta (USA), Chengdu (China), and Foshan (China), with additional launches planned in the U.S. and China by the end of the year.
Mercedes-Benz plans to expand its charging network to include locations in Italy, Spain, and France in Europe from 2024. By the end of 2024, the global charging network will encompass over 2,000 charging points, with more than 200 in Europe alone. The company aims to establish over 2,000 of its own charging hubs, featuring over 10,000 fast-charging points worldwide by the end of the decade.
