Schaeffler is showcasing its expertise in the realm of hydrogen-based transportation through an innovative iteration of metallic bipolar plates intended for PEM fuel cells. These plates serve as a crucial component in all fuel cell systems. What sets Schaeffler’s plates apart is their novel design, which has been optimised for efficient large-scale manufacturing.
They also incorporate an inventive coating process that enhances the durability of the fuel cells. In addition, fuel cell stacks constructed using these advanced plates achieve a 20 percent higher power density compared to stacks built with earlier-generation plates. Matthias Zink, CEO of Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler AG, emphasized the company’s commitment to hydrogen-based drive systems, particularly for commercial vehicles aimed at long-distance journeys. Schaeffler is dedicated to developing individual components and complete subsystems for fuel cells, positioning itself for the comprehensive implementation of these technologies on an industrial scale.
